Sophia Perry with Sgt. Linn

Student Sophia Perry presented $194 to Sgt. Linn at Long Beach Animal Control to be used for the care of pets at Animal Control. Under the guidance of Sophia’s teacher, Mrs. Cohen at Emerson Parkside Academy, Long Beach, CA, a 100-day school project of collecting pledges for the animals turned into a surprise bonus for the cats and dogs awaiting permanent, loving homes. Sophia said she hoped to inspire other kids to make a difference in the world.

Good news! Roadie was visited by two girls who brought their Mom over an hour later. Roadie instantly enchanted Mom...love at first sight. Roadie is so happy with his new home and parents. Roadie is so grateful to The Pet Set as he cried, "I wuv you, Matt."

BULLETIN: A TOY FOR EVERY ANIMAL

A TOY FOR EVERY ANIMAL. The City of Long Beach Animal Care Services receives many requests regarding ways to volunteer to help the animals at our shelter. Currently, Animal Care Services is promoting "a toy for each animal", to improve health and wellness. Chew toys like the Classic Kong help keep animals' minds and bodies engaged, leading to greater health and a higher rate of adoption.

HOW YOU CAN HELP. Purchase a rubber Kong Classic. The irresistible chew toy is indestructible and safe. It can be easily cleaned and disinfected after each use. They can be purchased at any local pet supply store. KONGS toys can be dropped off at Long Beach Animal Care Services in the designated donation box in the lobby.

Won't you donate a toy or a check today to make the lives of our dogs and cats more pleasant while they wait to be retrieved by an owner or being chosen for adoption/ rescue. If you send a check, please make a note on the memo line "A Toy For Every Animal." Updated Bulletin Regarding Ralphs and Food4Less Program

Buy Your Groceries at Ralphs and help the Friends! As you may know, if you have a Ralphs or a Food4Less card, you can help the Friends and it won't cost you a dime. Every time you use your Ralphs or your Food4Less card or give your phone number for your Ralphs or Food4Less discount, 4% of your purchases will be sent to the Friends! If you spend over $500 in one month, then 5% of your purchases over that amount will be sent to the Friends.

How to add Friends of Long Beach Animals as your Ralphs Community Relations recipient:

Log on to www.ralphs.com

Under "Welcome" on the right hand side, click on the "Sign In/Register" link.
On the new screen select “Sign-up today.”
On the next screen, put in your zip code and enter for a listing of Ralphs in your area. (Do not enter other data yet.)
Select your favorite store.
Then on the screen that has your favorite Ralphs on it, enter your email address and a 6 digit password. Also select any subscriptions you want. Hit "confirm."
Review your sign-up information, read the terms and conditions, and hit "confirm" again.
Go to your email. Wait to get an email from Ralphs titled “Last Step to Activate Your Account and Preferences” (should only take a minute or two to come through).
Enter the link provided in the email. A new Ralphs page will appear.
Hit the “Click Here” to go to your account.
Now sign in with your email and password.
Over on the right hand side you will be able to Edit Community Contribution Program Info.
First you have to enter your new Ralphs card number and hit "Save changes."
Enter your address and phone. Hit "Save changes."
Finally you come to the page where you can type in "84713" or “friends of long”, then select the button for Friends of Long Beach Animals.
Hit "Save changes."

“Humane Education” – our program free to LBUSD schools to teach children care and kindness to all animals.
“Membership Dues” - Become a member – see above.
Donate your car, boat or RV. Call 562-988-7647 to find out how. You benefit with a tax write-off, and the animals benefit from the donation.

Send checks to “FOLBA” and write in the memo line to which program you would like to donate. If you don’t know which program to choose, just indicate “Use Where Needed.”

When you visit the Companion Animal Village, be sure to visit the dogs and cats with Long Beach Animal Control. These lovely animals may be available for adoption.

The memorial (below) was presented by Friends of Long Beach Animals to honor Long Beach Animal Control for saving the life of Taki, the first messenger dog to serve in the war effort.
