How to be a Responsible Pet Owner
By: Donielle Franklin

Being a responsible pet owner is like taking care of a child; pets need love, attention and care. Animals need more care than you think. They need the best foods; they should go to the doctor regularly and get plenty of sunlight because animals feel what we feel. Usually dogs and cats are the main animals that need the most attention. Some people think when they first get animals they love them at first, but they forget all about them. The best thing to do is to get the dog or cat spayed so your animal can be safe, and not to produce offspring, so there would be more innocent unsheltered animals on the streets.

The best thing for the pet is safety and security; animals can feel lonely when locked up in the house or garage without anyone with them. Each year four to six million mostly young and healthy cats and dogs are put to death in the United States because shelters can’t find homes for them. It’s always best to keep your dog spayed to prevent them from producing. This would prevent innocent animals from being on the streets and in the pound. There’s nothing worse than seeing millions of dogs and cats and being put to sleep or getting killed on the streets, especially if we could help prevent it.

Pets always need good exercise. Obesity affects 40 percent of dogs and 25 percent of cats in the United States. That means animals need lots of activity and walks. Pets can get lonely being at home alone with no activities, can also cause health problems, because their bones aren’t getting enough exercise. So much we could do to get their hearts racing, anything is better than no activity at all. Dogs and cats should always have the amount of energy they need and deserve. Keeping our pets safe and healthy is always the best way to have an animal.

We believe in ending the euthanasia of healthy animals.
